Todays Gun Show Report

I went to a gun show here in East Tennessee today. I wasn't real impressed with the gun show. I got there a little late, a little after 11:00 and still had to stand outside in line for about 15 minutes to get in. Admission was $8 and that is all I spent. I saw Wolf .223 for $175/500 or $325/1000 and I saw a guy buying a case. I saw a new Bushmaster M4A3 for $1299. I talked with a guy who said he sold an Olympic Arms A2 for $900 before he got in the door. The best price I saw on brass cased ammo was 200 rds. of Remington UMC for $89. A lot of people were carrying long guns but not a lot of ARs. I saw some used USGI mags with green followers for $15 and new ones for $19.99. The only thing I was really looking for was an AR15 M4A3 complete upper by Busmaster or Double Star. I wish I had my $8 back!

The only bright spot was I met a guy on the way home and bought some silver. I got 48 Washington quarters, 15 Mercury dimes and 3 40% halves. :ok:

I'm wondering if Louisville's gun show next week will be the same way. I might go with one of my Bushmaster AR's with a $1200 sticker on it just to see what happens. I bet it would sell. Other than that, I don't see anything being worth buying, I guess I am too spoiled with the internet.

Reports I've heard is that while the prices are high, the merchandise isn't moving.

This. Went to the BIG X-roads/SAR show today. When I say big I mean it fills 7 state fair pavilions plus some tents.

AR's and AKs priced around $1200, AR lower halves prices at $450. Lots of folks were buying stuff, but the over priced ARs and AKs were just sitting there.

Very little gunpowder, some primers, but Large rifle was sold out.

Bought a nice little H&R topbreak for 2-bills, there were a few deals out there, but mostly on old stuff.

I suspect the initial burst of "gotta get me a gun" mania may be dying down some. That, coupled with many people already under financial stress. I do hope ammunition prices go down some before long.

I can't speak for the rest of the country, but here in Denver, business is BOOMING.

For the first time in over five years, I worked the Tanner Gun Show at the Merchandise Mart.

I've attended this show on and off for over the past 12+ years. I worked it for 5 years straight. Then finally stopped working almost every other weekend to sell firearms. Though I always enjoyed going.

This time, I was selling used military surplus chests. I did OK. I sold nine chests, most within the last two hours of the show. And made OK money doing so.

But the place was a zoo. The Fire Marshall stopped allowing people to enter somewhere around 1 pm, as the building had reached it's capacity of a little over 15,000. In the 12+ years I worked or attended this show, THAT has never happened. EVER. People stood in line outside, waiting for someone to leave so they could get in.

And firearms, ammo, etc (my boxes would fall into the etc category) were selling quite well. Ammo seemed to be the big mover. Though you could mainly find .223, as 7.62x39 was scarce to non-existent. There were numerous dealers that were selling semi-auto rifles. BUT the big hang up came when the CBI background check computers went down for over three hours. When it was announced they were back on line, there was literally a cheer that rose up from the crowd. Somewhat scary in so many ways.

I have a lead right now on two different customers for purchasing many more of my chests. I handed out over forty business cards. If I have as good a day tomorrow as I did today, I will have done very well even if the two customer leads I have DON'T work out, though I think one of them will as it's a local firearms dealer I know and I'm making him a screaming deal on a really large Anvil Case.

All in all, it seems most people did well at the show today. Even the guy next to me who sold nothing but well made wooden models of airplanes and helicopters did OK.

People were there in large numbers and cash was king and it flowed like a high pressure water hose on a hot summers day.

Tell me more.

Are you talking about an old pistol, .32 or .38?

Or are you talking about a shotgun?
